Hiking in San DiegoSan Diego is often labelled as 'America Finest City'. It is easy to see why - fantastic climate year round, beautiful beaches and plenty of other attractions (world famous San Diego Zoo and Sea World to name a few) make this Southern California town popular tourist mecca. As such one does not often associate wilderness hiking / mountains with San Diego. But Hiking is alive and well and there are many great areas to explore, ranging from coast to foothills/mountains and desert. Definite Hiking Guidebook is "Afoot and Afield in San Diego County" by Jerry Schad - an equivalent of Patton/Robinson "Canadian Rockies Trail Guide". While living in San Diego and during later visits I hiked many of these trails and experience left deep impact to my overall outdoor life. Picture below is from personal favorite - Iron Mountain in Poway I've ascended more than dozen of times over the years:
Finally in winter 21/22 I decided to open up dedicated San Diego Hiking Section on Autumn Sky. It already has more entries than Jasper NP back in Canada, and it will only grow with time. Enjoy looking at these great trails through my camera lens and if in San Diego remember not to spend all the time on the beach! Comments
