Cascade Falls from Banff Airstrip.  Hiking trail ends at bench lower part of the photo

Trip Summary

June 23, 2023

Tall waterfall breaking cliffs of Cascade Mountain as Trans Canada Highway approaches Banff from the East.  Access trail starts at small parking opposite Cascade Ponds on Lake Minnewanka access road.  It takes only 15-20 minutes and ~100m vertical to reach base of the Falls, which is usual hiker turnaround point.  It is possible to scramble higher but it becomes increasingly more difficult the further you go.  This is very short outing;  if you'd like to extend the day for few hours further it is possible to wonder around west on old road by Banff Airstrip heading towards Stoney Mountain, then explore one of several climbing access trails on north side.
