Vancouver Island :: Victoria :: Witty's Lagoon

Fallen Tree log on Beach Trail in Witty's Lagoon

Trip Summary

October 29, 2021

Witty's Lagoon Regional Park is exceptional Nature area in Metchosin.  There are 2 separate parks:  Tower Point and Main Witty's Laggon, with vast network of trails.  These two parks do not connect directly, but short walk through residential area will avoid parking shuffle if desired.  Scenery exceeds expectations - it is not just a "beach walk" - spectacular Sitting Lady Falls with serene lagoon views and mature coastal rainforest are additional highlights.  Park is family friendly with picnic areas and likely busy on sunny weekends.  If visiting in the afternoon, it is probably better to leave Tower Point last for sunset views.

Access is via Metchosin Road ~7km from Sooke Road intersection.  Main area has Nature center, that was closed during my visit due to Covid Pandemic.  From Nature center descend on wide trail passing scenic Bilston Creek cascades (gallery) to marked junction.  Main Beach trail continues to the right, but Sitting Lady Falls are best seen following Lagoon Trail to the left.   Wooden Platforms with Railings just past Learning Center Amphitheater is exceptional viewpoint.  From there you can explore as much as you want, eventually returning back to the junction.   Main Beach area is ~1km away and offers restrooms, picnic tables and great views.  Tower Point can be reached either by driving Duke Road from Metchosin Road, or by following Lagoon trail then walking through residential on Olympic Drive.  Wide Path exits to bluffs above the Ocean with great views across Strait of Juan De Fuca.
