Trendy Mediterranean Port and Catalonia Capital was entry/exit point on grand Spain '25 trek. Barcelona is all about Catalan Architect Antoni Gaudi. His crown achievent is Famous "Sagrada Familia" - largest unfinished Catholic Church in the World, and reason by itself to visit Barcelona. Metro Transport is excellent: Modern International El Prat Airport and extensive Metro network make moving around very convenient. (From the airport simply take Orange L9 to Zona Universitaria, then Green L3 to City Center). Internet Travel sites advertise "Hola Barcelona" Tourist Card, but in my opinion while convenient it is not really necessary.
My 5 night stay was in trendy Gracia, from where I was able to walk to all attactions I wanted to see, including Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell. These 2 sites are really a must, but I also enjoyed full day in Montjuic that included visit to old Medirreanean Hilltop fort, followed by super enjoyable exploration of Olympic Area (famous summer '94 Games).
Be aware that Barcelona is very popular with tourists year-round. Even in Jan/Feb off season it is advisable to purchase tickets for Sagrada Familia well ahead (timed entry).
