Overland Journey from Bariloche, Argentina to Puerto Varas, Chile. While designing grand South American Journey my plan was to simply take inexpensive public bus between these 2 points. But browsing Travel agencies in Bariloche I noticed "Cruce Andino" - Andean Crossing Tour over several Patagonian Lakes and Mountain Passes, that basically seemed to have all I am usually looking for in faraway trekking. Knowing that was likely last time in this life I'll have such chance, I just went for it. Naturally it was more expensive than bus, but not terrible (see https://www.cruceandino.com for latest prices and info). It turned out to be excellent choice, highly recommended journey if you are in this part of the world. Trip goes every day in season and can be booked 1-way, or return (with optional multi-day stay at each end, as desired).

The higlight was 2 hour afternoon catamaran sail from Peulla to Petrohoue, already on Chile side, with great views of mighty Osorno. Incidentally day of the crossing also had the best weather; rest of my stay in Puerto Varas was cloudy and rainy. Another reason why Cruce Andino turned out to be unplanned success - Spontaneous decisions are sometimes the best!
