Penultimate Day and bittersweet feeling after month spent trekking in Annapurna Range; I was leaving Himalayas and knew I’d likely not return in this life. I took my time and left lodge later than usual; tiredness from previous day had something to do with it. Climb up thousands of stairs to Chomrong Village I was weary off did not feel so bad, and having plenty of time I decided to spend few hours in Chomrong. Late morning was beautiful: clear and sunny with amazing views back to Sanctuary area. Chomrong is largest village in the area with schools, restaurants and shops. I decided to treat myself with German chocolate cake and cappuccino I enjoyed on terrace of local bakery, watching local basketball tournament on a high school court beneath.
Still some novel trekking was to be had, as my return way to Nayapul was not same as way in. Instead of going back up Chomrong Pass, I went left towards Jhinu Danda. This is the ‘express way’ in/out ABC; roads are now getting built higher and higher, and just few kilometres past Jhinu Danda is Himalpani bus station. I could have probably walked to Himalpani the same day, then taken public transport to Pokhara but it would be fairly long day. Instead I spent last night on trail in Jhinu Danda, thinking I’d check local hot springs in the afternoon. Descent from Chomrong was the steepest yet; climbing this on the way in would be very strenuous indeed! I settled in the lodge around 3pm, but afternoon clouds already rolled in and I abandoned hot springs trek spending rest of the day resting after good lunch.
