I expected Mendoza to be just a convenient Aconcagua launching pad. It turned out much more than that, and it's well worth at least a week visit. Main drag is famous "Aristides" - trendy neigborhood with restaurant and bars, bursting with nightlife. Just to the north are several Plazas, of which largest and best known is "Independencia" - a must visit. Within walking distance are also Plaza Espana, Plaza Chile, Plaza San Martin - but I enjoyed most Plaza Italia for great fountain art.

West of Aristides is Parque General San Martin - one of largest (and best) urban parks I've ever visited. There are museums, walkways, lagoon and many recretional paths - as well as Stadium Malvinas that hosted some of World Cup in Soccer games in 1978. At far end is another must see - Cerro Gloria with Monument to the Army of the Andes on Top. While most of its is walkable, great option is Hop On / Hop off Mendoza City Tour Bus with stops at all major tourist attractions, including Cerro Gloria. I will also recommend Anaconda Serpentario, with many exotic snake species, some of which I saw for first time in my life. Good shopping is also abundantly available, specially Palmares Shopping Mall, which I simply didn't have time to visit.

Sitting in warm climate, Mendoza is also famous for its wines. Besides good quality, they are also unbelievably cheap. There are many wineries around offering tasting and you are guaranteed to walk out with a bottle (or two). Just don't go in full summer as it will be way too hot (Even in 2nd half of March I was glad for AC in my AirBnB rental).
