Sea-to-Sky: Fjords, Forests and Ridges

Trails in this section are accessed from Sea-to-Sky highway between Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver and Howe Sound terminus in Squamish. Pins on the map identify location of 5 main trailheads. This is wild and beautiful area; even just 45min drive along twisting and curving Hwy 99 is very rewarding. Classic alpine with lakes and meadows is still there, but to get to it you have to pay the price - excruciating climbs up insanely steep slopes where 1000 vertical or more just to get to treeline is the norm. Reward is magnificent and unique scenery - impossibly deep gorges, island and bays, snow-caped peaks and ever-present rainforest

This is also home of famous Howe Sound Crest Trail (HSCT)- 30km ridgewalk along Howe Sound spine between Cypress Bowl on the south and north terminus in Porteau Cove. Highly recommended; it is one of "the trails" on this planet and way better than over-hyped West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island. Lions Bay, some 15 minutes north from Horseshoe Bay is important hub that provides access to must beautiful and most rugged part of HSCT, including peaks like Lions, Mt. Brunswick, Harvey and Hat. New Squamish Gondola has opened up access to high-alpine country of Sky Pilot and is another must-visit in this corridor.
